The ICE Louis Lafosse Bi- centenary PhD scholarship is open only to full-time applicant. All other are open both for full time and part-time candidates.

All fees for only scholarship and bursaries will be given on the basis of financial need, particularly in relation to a shortfall in funding fees, in relation with an excellent  performance in academics.

Scholarships are awarded in Catholic Theology / Catholic Studies for 2019-2020.

Scholarship Award:

With the exception of the Institute of Christian Education Louis Lafosse Bi-centenary PhD Scholarship, due to the very limited amount of funds available, no support can be given towards maintenance costs, just help towards tuition fees. Any student already in receipt of any grants will have these totalled against their fees requirement.

Entrance Requirements:

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

Course : Candidates within the Department of Theology and Religion registering for the following courses are eligible to apply.*

MA in Christian Theology (Catholic Studies) (V8K607)

OR
MA by Research, MLitt, DThM, Integrated PhD, PhD, each with a clear focus in Catholic Studies / Catholic Theology.

Full-/part-time study
The ICE Louis Lafosse Bi-centenary PhD Scholarship is open only to full-time candidates.
All other scholarships and bursaries are open to both full-time and part-time candidates.

Residence: All scholarship and bursary holders must reside sufficiently proximate to Durham as to be able to take a full part in the life, work, and events of the Centre for Catholic Studies.

Durham University UK 2019 Postgraduate Scholarships – English Language Requirements: 
Applicants whose first language is not English are usually required to provide evidence of proficiency in English at the higher level required by the University.

Durham University UK 2019 Postgraduate Scholarships – How to Apply: 

The application form for Scholarship/Bursary applications is available here must be returned to the CCS Administrator, theresa.phillips-at-durham.ac.uk, not later than Tuesday 1 January 2019.All applicants must complete Sections 1 – 4 of this form, and return it to the CCS Administrator, Department of Theology and Religion, with a covering letter, and a copy of their research proposal by Tuesday 1 January 2019.

Also, applicants for scholarships and bursaries who are new candidates for a postgraduate degree within the Department of Theology and Religion must, by this date, have successfully completed a formal student application process through Durham University’s Graduate School and have been formally offered and accepted a place on the relevant course of studies.  The deadline for completing the online student application, with all supporting documents, is Sunday 2 December 2018.

The covering letter should include:

details of the applicant’s proposed course of studies (e.g. anticipated modules and envisaged dissertation topic for MA students; and a summary of the research proposal for research students); and details of how their proposed course of study fits into the story of their academic career and how they plan subsequently to use their studies in relation to Catholic theological education and/or research, and/or wider service in church/society.
