Google Calendar – How to Use a Google Calendar Background Image

The calendar is used as a time-management and scheduling calendar service which was  developed by Google it became available in April 2006,

and was release in July 2009, the release was on  the web and as mobile apps for the Android and iOS platforms.

Thus,  Google Calendar application enables its user to create personal or public calendars which one can use after signing up for a Google account,

The calendar allows users to create and edit events. Signing up for google accounts are free.

Google Calendar gets a little bit bored with just a solid color behind each day. You can actually brighten up your events with a large background image.

As a result, the  setting to enable a Google Calendar background image is kind of hidden away but once enabled, it’s real  simple to add or remove a

photo from displaying as a background image on your google  calendars.

Below is how you as a user can add a background Image to Google Calender.

How Add a Background Image to Google Calendar

These simple steps below will help you with a custom Google Calendar image in the background:

  • Ensure the correct setting for Google background images is enabled
  • If enabled click the settings/gear button at the top right of the Calendar and choose Settings from the drop-down menu.
  • Make sure you’re viewing the General tab.
  • Scroll down to the “Calendar background” section near the bottom of the page.
  • Then click the Choose image link to either select one of your own photos already on your Google account or to upload a new one from your computer
  • Click Select once you’ve made your decision.
  • Back on the General settings page, pick either Centered, Tiled or Scaled to fit to decide how the image should appear on your calendar which you can always change.
  • Click Save to apply the changes and go back to your calendar, where you should see your new background image.

Guide to Enable a Background Image

Here, background image capability of Google Calendar isn’t an option that’s available by default.

Instead, you have to enable it through the Labs section, All you need do is;

  • Firstly, open the gears/setting button from the Google Calendar menu.
  • Secondly, choose Labs.
  • Then, locate the Background image option.
  • Also, choose the Enable radio button.
  • Finally, click Save at the underneath the page.

How to Export events from all calendars

  • On your computer, open Google Calendar. You can’t export your calendar from the Google Calendar app. 
  • At the top right, click Settings  Settings.
  • To download your events, click Import & export.
  • Under “Export,” click Export.  A ZIP file downloads to your computer. If you open the ZIP file, you’ll find individual ICS files for each of your calendars.

To import the files back into Google Calendar, take the individual ICS files out of the ZIP file and import them one by one.

How to Export events from one calendar

  • On your computer, open Google Calendar. You can’t export events from the Google Calendar app. 
  • On the left side of the page, find the “My calendars” section. You might need to click to expand it
  • Point to the calendar you want to export, click More  Settings and sharing.
  • Under “Calendar settings,” click Export calendar.
  • An ICS file of your events will start to download.

How to Import events into Google Calendar

Here, is how to import events into google calender. Once you’ve exported your events, you can import them into Google Calendar.

You can import ICS and CSV files on a computer. 

  • At the top right, click Settings   Settings.
  • At the left, click Import & Export.
  • Click Select file from your computer and select the file you exported. The file should end in “.ics” or “.csv.”
  •  Choose which calendar to add the imported events to. By default, events will be imported into your primary calendar.
  • Click Import.

If you have a .zip file, find it on your computer and open it. You’ll find .ics files for each of your calendars.

Take the individual files out of the .zip file, and import each .ics file individually.

Repeating events might not show up that way if you import them from a .csv file, but they’ll be on your calendar as a series of one-time events.
