How to Manually Sync Contacts to Google Account

Backup Contacts on Android via Export

One can take contacts saved on your device’s hard drive or SIM card and export them into a .vcf file. This will let you import those contacts to a new phone.

  • Open the Contacts app on your Android phone.
  • Tap Menu > Settings > Export.
  • If you have multiple accounts, choose which one you want to export contacts from.
  • Tap Save to download the .vcf file.

If you have that file, you’ll need to store it in a safe place, either on removable storage like a SIM or memory card, or in the cloud via services like Google Drive or Gmail.

How to Import Contacts From a .VCF File

To upload your saved .vcf file to a new phone:

Open the Contacts app and tap Settings Import > .vcf file. In the Downloads manager, tap the Menu icon and navigate to where you saved the file (Google Drive, a SD card, etc.).

Once you tap the .vcf file, Google will automatically import the data to your phone.
